The bike piece by piece

This bike has been assembled piece by piece with the help, knowledge and dedication of Àngel from “Espaibici in Barcelona. It’s a shop specializing in the assembly of bikes for long journeys. I don’t know what I would’ve done without him!

We decided to go for a bike that was tough and robust, easy to fix and versatile for all types of terrain. This resulted in a Cromoly steel frame, which is easy to weld if needed although quite heavy, with a fork that would allow the mounting of tyres wide enough to be able to ride on any terrain. The rims, spokes, tyres, hubs and everything related to wheels is of high quality and we went for 700c wheels in order to gain some speed. The drivetrain system is of average quality with 2 chainrings and 2 speeds, so that everything’s a bit lighter. We opted for mechanical disc brakes in order to ensure good braking in any condition without compromising the ease to fix them. The rest of the components are of good quality so as to make the hours on the bike not so long. Emphasis should be placed on the saddle, the kickstand to support the bike and the racks. Last but not least, we decided to mount a SON 28 dynamo hub in order to take advantage of the energy generated during pedalling to charge an external powerbank thanks a DC (dynamo) to AC transformer from Sinewave Cycles. We’ll see how it all works!

For now I had to change the bike stand because it was bent due to the weight and I had to raise the saddle 6 cm because I had a lot of knee pain. It was after a biomechanics visit in Bologna where they also gave me a series of very useful tips on my ideal posture for pedaling on my bike.

And having said that, here’s a list of all the parts that make up my bike. I will update it if something breaks or if I change any part. If you like it I could do other similar posts regarding tools and spare parts that I carry with me or even about other gear such as camping gear, clothes or cooking!

Till then!
